From the Pastor’s Heart

How many of the things you handled at Christmas carried the phrase

Some Assembly Required?  Chances are you either gave a gift or

received a gift that needed to be put together.

More and more, I'm wondering if that's our Christmas present this year –

a new Church, "with some assembly required."  It's not beyond imagining!

As we complete our season of remembering the Gift God gave us in Christ

Jesus, and as we look to the New Year full of its possibilities, let's keep our

eyes open for "instructions" for assembling St. Andrew's in our next venture

-- the next right answer.

                    Exciting New Year!

Mariners News

What Fun!!  Mariners enjoyed plenty of good food and good cheer at our Christmas Party last week. A warm "THANKS" from all of us to Pastor Ann & Richard for hosting such a wonderful evening. And...the Christmas Legend DID make an appearance!  No, not Santa, the Fuzzy Coasters!!

Now, we have to get down to business in January and elect new officers.

Messages of Thanks….

Dear Friends,

We wish to thank you for your cards, prayers and expressions of concern for our daughter, Sueann.  They have meant a great deal to us.  We are spending time with her in California and know she is most appreciative of your kindnesses.

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the package sent during finals week.  It is very nice to have someone thinking about you, and the sugar doesn’t hurt with the all-nighters.

Thanks,

Edwin Lee

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Women…Thank you for the thoughtfulness and the cookies.

Think of you ladies often and wish I could still attend.

Thanks again!

Session Highlights

The Session met December 14, 2006, in the Fellowship Hall. After a Responsive Reading from the Psalms, Pastor Ann opened the meeting with prayer.  She led the Session toward spiritual maturity using 7 Practices of Effective Ministry by Andy Stanley, Reggie Joiner and Lane Jones.  (These practices are Clarify the Win [define what is important]; Think Steps, Not Programs [before you start anything, make sure it takes you where you need to go], Narrow the Focus [do fewer things in order to make a greater impact]; Teach Less for More [say, only what you need to say to the people who need to hear it]; Listen to Outsiders [focus on who you’re trying to reach, not who you’re trying to keep]; Replace Yourself [learn to hand off what you do]; and Work On It [take time to evaluate your work, and celebrate your wins].)

The Session welcomed all seven members of The Focus Team, as well as three representatives of The Little Light House Board.  That Board brought a verbal offer to buy our property for $7 per square foot of land, and promised to deliver a written contract along with a copy of their $10,000 earnest money check, as soon as their attorney had finished reviewing it.  After the Board left, our Focus Team brought their written findings, and answered questions from the Session.  A written page will be given to everyone after worship to keep them apprised of this offer.  [NOTE: This page is included in this issue of The Shield.]

After the Focus Team left, the Session conducted its routine business:

bulletRestored Kathy Rhodes to the active roles, and transferred her to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
bulletLearned that St. Andrew’s children raised $1,200 for shallow water wells and Bibles for Malawi.
bulletVoted to add Jeff Baumann to the list of counter and Robin Williams as an alternate.
bulletLearned that receipts are lagging way behind expenses, and outstanding bills total $5,205.44:

                                                     September          October       November

                        Receipts              $9,906.83       $12,151.09    $11,299.06

                        Expenses          $12,598.24       $14,715.92    $11,698.95

bulletHeard that the Nominating Committee will be ready to nominate elders and deacons after the next Team Meetings, so asked the Session to call a meeting of the congregation to elect these people on Sunday, January 21, immediately after worship in the Sanctuary.
bulletCollected $50 on the spot to participate in the Acts 16:5 Initiative, sponsored by the Presbytery on February 2 and 3. [Acts 16:5 says “The churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.”]
bulletThe Deacons sent their minutes, which included their motion to continue the partnership with Luwerezi Presbytery in Malawi.
