Hurricane Disaster Assistance As tragedy after tragedy unfolds before our eyes, so do the ways we can help those caught in the grips. There are many ways to help, so choose an organization that is closest to your heart. Below is a list of some of the many ways Presbyterians are organized to put our faith into action. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance: This is money primarily given through the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering taken at Easter, although people may contribute throughout the year by making checks out to PC(USA) and mailing them to Presbyterian Church (USA), Individual Remittance Processing, PO Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA 15264-3700. If you make a direct contribution, please designate one of the following account numbers:
You can help through several different avenues: Directly to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, to the address mentioned, through the internet [ www.pcusa.org/katrina/give.htm – it will surely be expanded to include Rita Relief]. You may also call PresbyTel at 1-800-872-3283 to give with your credit card by phone.Through St. Andrew’s, noting on the bottom of your check that it is for PDA. (Your giving statement will reflect this additional giving.) Through Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery, noting your intention on the bottom of your check. If you note PDA, it will be sent directly to PDA; if you note "Hurricane Response" it will be divided equally between PDA and the Presbytery of Southern Louisiana (that may change now that the Presbytery of New Covenant has experienced hurricane disaster). Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery’s address is: 700 S. Boston, Suite 200, Tulsa, OK 74119. Their website is eokpresbytery.org. Through the Synod of the Sun, with similar notations. They are "our" synod, and are working to rebuild churches and lives in South Louisiana Presbytery ("Katrina" and "Rita") and New Covenant Presbytery ("Rita"). Their address is: The Synod of the Sun, 1925 E. Belt Line Rd., Suite 220, Carrollton, TX 75006, and their website is synodsun.com. Through the Synod of Living Waters, with similar notations. They are the synod working to rebuild churches and lives in the Presbytery of Mississippi and the Presbytery of South Alabama, both devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Their address is: The Synod of Living Waters, 318 Seaboard Lane, Suite 205, Franklin, TN 37067-8242, and their website is synodoflivingwaters.org. |
