ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SERVICE OF WORSHIP THIS MORNING

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church lives to celebrate God’s love through worship, seek God’s truth through education, and share God’s gifts through mission and fellowship. We encourage you to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of coffee, cookies and fellowship following the morning service. All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to join St. Andrew's. If you have no church home, we invite you to consider uniting with us as we seek to faithfully serve our Lord.  Speak to an usher or the Pastor at the close of the service to learn more.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 9, verse 1)  O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.  Rejoice!  Rejoice!  Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

ONE:  Happy was the day when God restored the fortunes of Jacob, forgave the iniquity of the people and pardoned all their sin!

ALL:  Let us listen to what the Lord God will speak; hear the words of peace spoken to the faithful, those who turn their hearts to God.

ONE:  Surely deliverance from sin is near for those who turn their eyes to God.

ALL:  Yes!  Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will embrace!

ONE:  The Lord will give what is good; righteousness will go before Him, and will make a path for His steps.  Let us keep our eyes on God!                          (From Psalm 85)

ALL:

ONE:  How shall we prepare this house for the coming of the Son of God?

ALL:  By hearing again the words of the prophets, who foretold the saving work of God.

*HYMN  5                   “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence”

CALL TO CONFESSION, UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God of forgiveness, we know that too often we do not act like we are forgiven!  We are inclined to be hostile, suspicious and envious; anger continues in spite of Christ’s promise of peace.  You open our eyes to Him, yet we remain blind to the truth of His presence.  Forgive us when we deliberately misuse Your mercy!  Help us to use these weeks of Advent to focus on Him.

*SILENT PRAYER

*ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON

*SONG OF ZECHARIAH (Hymn 602, verse 1)

Blest be the God of Israel, Who comes to set us free; Who visits and redeems us, Who grants us liberty.  The Prophets spoke of mercy, of freedom and release; God shall fulfill that promise and bring the people peace.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  Amen.
