ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SERVICE OF WORSHIP THIS MORNING

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church lives to celebrate God’s love through worship, seek God’s truth through education, and share God’s gifts through mission and fellowship.  We encourage you to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of coffee, cookies and fellowship following the morning service.  All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to join St. Andrew's.  If you have no church home, we invite you to consider uniting with us as we seek to faithfully serve our Lord.  Speak to an usher or the Pastor at the close of the service to learn more.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

World Communion Sunday

October 1, 2006                                                                                 10:00 a.m.

*Those able may stand

GREETINGS, CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH AND REGISTRY OF ATTENDANCE

PRELUDE                  “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go”                                    Peace

BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 138, verse 1)  Holy, holy, holy!  Lord God Almighty!  Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!  God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.

ONE:  Throughout God’s world this day, Christian churches celebrate the Lord’s Supper as one family, dining together in one room under one roof.

ALL:  Our sisters and brothers in Africa, Europe, Central America, Asia and all lands join us in lifting the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation.

ONE:  In Christ’s love there is no east, no west, no north, no south, but only one Spirit of hope, love, and peace for all people.

ALL:  The bread and cup are not for us alone, but are symbols of a universal message that surpasses everything we attempt to obscure it.

ONE:  Let us set aside our daily concerns, and turn our attention to God.

*HYMN  181 (verses 1 and 4)             “Come Sing to God”

*LITANY FOR THE UNITY OF CHRIST’S CHURCH (from The Worshipbook, 1970)

ONE:  O God You have welcomed us by baptism into one holy church, and joined us by faith to Christians in every place.  May Your church on earth be a sign of the communion You promise, where we will all be one with Christ.

ALL:  Amen.

ONE:  From a clinging to power that prevents church union; from thinking forms of government perfect, or courts of the church infallible;

ALL:  Good Lord, deliver us.

ONE:  From mistaken zeal that will not compromise; from paying more attention to doctrines than You;

ALL:  Good Lord, deliver us.

ONE:  From religious pride that belittles the faith of others, or claims true wisdom, but will not love;

ALL:  Good Lord, deliver us.

ONE:  From a prideful mind that wants its own way; from divisiveness; from protecting systems that have seen their day;

ALL:  Good Lord, deliver us.

ONE:  As Christ Jesus sent disciples into every land, gather us now, from the ends of the earth, into one fellowship that chooses Your purpose in one faith, one hope, one love.

ALL:  (Sung)  Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love: The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.  From sorrow, toil, and pain, and sin we shall be free; And perfect love and friendship reign through all eternity.
