ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

PENTECOST SUNDAY

WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SERVICE OF WORSHIP THIS MORNING

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church lives to celebrate God’s love through worship, seek God’s truth through education, and share God’s gifts through mission and fellowship.  We encourage you to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of coffee, cookies and fellowship following the morning service.  All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to join St. Andrew's.  If you have no church home, we invite you to consider uniting with us as we seek to faithfully serve our Lord.  Speak to an usher or the Pastor at the close of the service to learn more.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 464, verse 1)  Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love.  Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.  Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the gloom of doubt away; giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

ONE:  How manifold are God’s works!  The earth is full of God’s creatures.

ALL:  Let us sing to the Lord as long as we live; let us sing praises to our God every day of our lives!

ONE:  May our thoughts and actions be pleasing to God, for God is the One we want to please!

ALL:  Bless the Lord!  Let us praise God!                             (From Psalm 104)

*HYMN  130                 “Let Every Christian Pray”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Almighty and ever-gracious God, Your Spirit calls each of us, but we are often reluctant to heed the call.  The wind of Your Spirit blows us forward, yet we cling to what is familiar, and secure, and safe.  Help us to risk letting go, so we can walk with Jesus as Your servant people.  Help us to capture visions of the future, so that we can truly be the Church, the Body of Christ.

            *SILENT PRAYER

            *ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON

            *GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 579)

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.

                World without end! Amen, Amen.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From A Brief Statement of Faith 1991)

In life and in death we belong to God.  Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel , whom alone we worship and serve.  We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God, [who] proclaimed the reign of God.  We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father.  In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image.  In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of people long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.  In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks, and to live holy and joyful lives.
