ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SERVICE OF WORSHIP THIS MORNING

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church lives to celebrate God’s love through worship, seek God’s truth through education, and share God’s gifts through mission and fellowship. We encourage you to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of coffee, cookies and fellowship following the morning service. All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to join St. Andrew's. If you have no church home, we invite you to consider uniting with us as we seek to faithfully serve our Lord.  Speak to an usher or the Pastor at the close of the service to learn more.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Palm Sunday

April 9, 2006                                                                                                     10:00 a.m.

*Those able may stand

GREETINGS, CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH AND REGISTRY OF ATTENDANCE

PRELUDE                           Jerusalem                                        Mendelssohn

BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

*CALL TO WORSHIP

    ALL:  (Hymn 302, verse 4)

              I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black; It’s hard to dance with                  the devil on your back.  They buried My body and they thought I’d                          gone:  But I am the dance and I still go on.  Dance, then, wherever you                     may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said He, And I’ll lead you all,                               wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said He.

      ONE: In God we seek refuge, so we will never be put to shame.

      ALL: God listens to our cries and hears our needs.  God is a rock of refuge

                for us, a strong fortress to save us.

      ONE: We trust in God; we say, “You are our God!”

      ALL: Let us turn our full attention to God!

*HYMN  89              “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

      O God, You know how we are prone to run from pain.  We even want to avoid     encounters that will cause us discomfort!  It is easier to hide from distress

      than to be exposed to forms of misery and grief.  Yet we know that Jesus

      was faithful even though it caused him a death of excruciating pain.  Help us      to keep our faith in those times when following him brings us in conflict;

      help us to stand up for the life he lived.

          *SILENT PRAYER

            *ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON

          *GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 579)

   Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

   As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.

   World without end! Amen, Amen.

*HYMN  357           “O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee”

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From The Confession of 1967)

The reconciling act of God in Jesus Christ exposes the evil in people as sin in the sight of God.  In sin, people claim mastery of their own lives, turn against God and other people, and become exploiters and despoilers of the world.  They lose their humanity in futile striving and are left in rebellion, despair, and isolation.  All people fall under God’s judgment.  In love, God took on himself judgment and shameful death in Jesus Christ, to bring everyone to repentance and new life. (9.12-9.14)

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (Page 16, Traditional)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.
