BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 302, verse 2)   I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee, But they would not dance and they would not follow Me; I danced for the fishermen, for James and John; They came with Me and the dance went on.  Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said He, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said He.

ONE:  Let us look to God, who is like a shepherd to us.

ALL:  Our Shepherd guides us toward what keeps us alive and alert.

ONE:  Even in times of danger and peril, our Shepherd does not leave us.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

O God of Light and Darkness, too often we prefer to ignore the light,   and let darkness cover us.  Too often we fail to give proper balance to    our lives, keeping our “fruit” from growing and nourishing those     around us. Forgive us, we pray.  Turn us toward Jesus!  Inspire us by the balance of his life, so we can all live according to Your design.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From The Confession of 1967)

The reconciling act of God in Jesus Christ exposes the evil in people as sin in the sight of God.  In sin, people claim mastery of their own lives, turn against God and other people, and become exploiters and despoilers of the world.  They lose their humanity in futile striving and are left in rebellion, despair, and isolation.  All people fall under God’s judgment.  In love, God took on himself judgment and shameful death in Jesus Christ, to bring everyone to repentance and new life. (9.12-9.14)
