ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SERVICE OF WORSHIP THIS MORNING

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church lives to celebrate God’s love through worship, seek God’s truth through education, and share God’s gifts through mission and fellowship. We encourage you to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of coffee, cookies and fellowship following the morning service. All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to join St. Andrew's. If you have no church home, we invite you to consider uniting with us as we seek to faithfully serve our Lord.  Speak to an usher or the Pastor at the close of the service to learn more.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 302, verse 1)  I danced in the morning when the world was begun, And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth; At Bethlehem I had My birth.  Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said He, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said He.

ONE:  In this season of Lent, we come together remembering God’s love for all people.

ALL:  Lent is a time of tears.  But out of tears, joy is born – the joy of sin forgiven, hope reborn, and life restored.

ONE:  We stand in awe of God, who brings joy out of tears, and life out of death.

ALL:  As we come together, we turn away from the burdens of our lives, and look to Jesus to direct us.

*HYMN  487              “When Morning Gilds the Skies”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

We surround ourselves with crosses, O God; yet we confess that we shrink from the very actions that put Jesus on the cross.  Help us to know Your presence wherever there is suffering in our world; may we be channels of Your love and healing, so Your perfect will may be done, in Jesus’ name.

*SILENT PRAYER

*ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON

*GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 579)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.  World without end! Amen, Amen.

*HYMN  291          “O God of Earth and Altar”

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From The Confession of 1967)

The reconciling act of God in Jesus Christ exposes the evil in people as sin in the sight of God.  In sin, people claim mastery of their own lives, turn against God and other people, and become exploiters and despoilers of the world.  They lose their humanity in futile striving and are left in rebellion, despair, and isolation.  All people fall under God’s judgment.  In love, God took on himself judgment and shameful death in Jesus Christ, to bring everyone to repentance and new life. (9.12-9.14)

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (Page 16, Traditional)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.
