REAFFIRMATION OF BAPTISMAL VOWS

ONE:   The earth has been redeemed by the birth of Christ Jesus; by his baptism, humanity has been restored once more to nobility.

ALL:   God is joined with humanity.  God has made creation holy.  As we remember Jesus’ own baptism, we are empowered to forsake the bondage of death.  While we may threaten to destroy this world, our Creator works to restore all creation.  We join with God, who has joined with us, in working to renew our world.

ONE:   By His baptism, Jesus brought us away from sin, and turned us toward God.  By our baptism, we have become part of God’s people.  I ask you, therefore, once again to reject sin, to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, and to confess the faith of the Church-the faith by which you were baptized.

           Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin, and renounce evil and its power in the world?

ALL:   I do.

ONE:   Who is your Lord and Savior?

ALL:   Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior

ONE:   Will you work to be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying His word and showing His love?

ALL:   I will, with God’s help.

ONE:   Do you believe in God the Father?

ALL:   I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

ONE:   Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

ALL:   I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord 

            who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, 

            born of the virgin Mary, 

            suffered under Pontius Pilate, 

            was crucified, died, and was buried; 

            He descended to the dead.  

            On the third day he rose again; 

            He ascended into heaven, 

            He is seated at the right hand of the Father, 

            and He will come to judge the living and the dead.

ONE:   And do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

ALL:   I believe in the Holy Spirit, 

            the holy catholic church, 

            the communion of saints, 

            the forgiveness of sins, 

            the resurrection of the body, 

            and life everlasting.  Amen.
