*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 464, verse 1) Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.  Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the gloom of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

ONE:  When we take refuge in the Lord, we are never put to shame.

ALL:  God’s righteousness delivers and rescues us; God hears us and saves us.

ONE:  God is a strong fortress to save us; God is our rock and our refuge.

O God of mercy, we read that love is patient, yet we find ourselves irritable; we read that love is kind, yet we have threads of hostility among us.  We read that love is not jealous or boastful, but we are inclined to flaunt our achievements in the presence of others.  Forgive our lack of love.  In Jesus, You have shown love which forgives imperfection.  Turn us again on the path that follows him.

In life and in death we belong to God.  Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.  We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God, [who] proclaimed the reign of God.  We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father.  In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image.  We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.  With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
