BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

*CALL TO WORSHIP

ALL:  (Hymn 464, verse 1) Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.  Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the gloom of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

ONE:  The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the ignorant.

ALL:  The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes.

O God, have mercy upon us, and because of Christ forgive our sin.  He called the Church to be one body with parts to make it function.  Yet we sever that one Body through suspicion and hostility; we cannot eat together around one common Table; we take from one another what belongs to us all.  By Your grace, make us one in Christ.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from A Brief Statement of Faith, 1991)

In life and in death we belong to God.  Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.  We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God, [who] proclaimed the reign of God.  We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father.  In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image.  We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.  With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
