BRINGING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THIS ROOM

CALL TO WORSHIP:

ONE:  We waited patiently for You, O God, and You heard our cries.

ALL:  You put a new song in our mouths, a song of praise to our God.

ONE:  We tell the glad news of Your deliverance; you have not restrained our lips.

ALL:  May Your steadfast love and faithfulness keep us whole forever!

ONE:  Let us worship God!

*HYMN 138                            “Holy, Holy, Holy”

*CALL TO CONFESSION, UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Our desire is to do Your will, O God; Your law is in our hearts.  But when misfortunes press in on us from all sides, and sin overtakes us, our sight fails.  When we are tempted by the vain promises of “a life full of ease,” our courage forsakes us and we submit to their charm.  When people laugh at our faith, we shrink in shame and forget what Christ taught.  Have mercy on us; forgive us and free us, that we may be renewed this day to serve Your people as Jesus did.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From the Brief Confession of Faith, 1991)

In life and in death we belong to God.  Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the holy one of Israel , whom alone we worship and serve.  We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God, who proclaimed the reign of God.  We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father.  In sovereign love God created the world good, and makes everyone equally in God’s image.  We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.  With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Amen.
